Abstract:

The algorithm is developed to calculate uncertainty estimates for practical salinity measurements. The dependence of the practical salinity on the input parameters of the electrical conductivity, temperature and pressure is analyzed. The diagrams of sensitivity coefficients of practical salinity from the input parameters are suitable for practical calculations. The diagrams of estimates of the uncertainty components of measurements by input parameters and estimates of the total standard uncertainty of practical salinity measurements for four classes of measuring instruments are calculated. Diagrams of uncertainty estimates of measurements of the practical salinity of sea water can be used in oceanographic studies and in the work of metrological laboratories.

Keywords: sea water, practical salinity, specific electric conductivity, sensitivity coefficients, standard uncertainty, total uncertainty of measurements.
