Abstract:

Oxyrrhis marina is a widespread, motile heterotrophic dinoflagellate that is used as a model object for experiments that reveal the essence of the processes occurring in planktonic communities. In one such experiment, we collected multiple data on the movement trajectories of O. marina during starvation, in the presence of typical food which is the microalgae Isochrysis galbana, and in the presence of microplastic particles. To store these data, we developed a relational database of O. marina trajectories. The database consists of the information about experiments and the records of movement trajectories. Each record includes the coordinates of the points of the trajectory projection, the lengths of the trajectory segments, the number of trajectory steps, the total length of the trajectory projection, and the projected velocity of motion. For each trajectory step, we collected data about the area of the microalgae image spot located at that point, the length and rotation angle of the largest diameter of the ellipse described around the image, and the ellipse eccentricity. The collected data allow us to identify characteristic types of trajectories and their varieties, perform mathematical analysis of dinoflagellate movements and build a model of the movements. The database is available at: micro-algae.ru/locomotion/oxy-iso-mpl
