Abstract:

The paper presents the results of a study of the composition of microalgae and cyanobacteria in periphyton communities on “fouling glasses” in the coastal waters of the Sevastopol region in 2017–2024. As in the entire ecosystem of the Black Sea, diatoms and cyanobacteria were widely represented in the periphyton. 50 forms were identified, of which 18 belonged to the Cyanoprokaryota department, 26 belonged to the Bacillariophyta department, 3 taxonomic units were representatives of Chlorophyta and other filamentous forms. The Dinophyta department included several genera, and two more groups of organisms had an unclear systematic position. The number of diatom genera simultaneously found in periphyton samples varied from 18 to 23 over the years, and cyanobacteria – from 5 to 9. Over the course of eight years, periphyton biomass fluctuated from a minimum of 0.3 x 10-3 g/cm2 in April 2018 to a maximum for all years of study (9.8 x 10-3 g/cm2) in September 2020. Various morphological forms of individual representatives of diatoms and cyanobacteria found in periphyton are noted, as well as interactions of individual representatives of algocenoses with each other, which is a complex, strictly regulated biological process. Various configurations of microcolonies and methods of their attachment to the substrate are described.
