Abstract:
The variability of the Atlantic Ocean heat balance and its main components total turbulent heat fluxes and radiation fluxes was investigated using data on latent and sensible heat fluxes, short- and long-wave surface radiation from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction/National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR) reanalysis for 1948–2020. For time series of these fluxes linear trend coefficients and the level of its significance, standard deviations and standard deviations for series with a removed high-frequency component of variability are estimated. It was shown that the spatiotemporal variability of the Atlantic heat balance (with the exception of the equatorial tropical zone) is mainly determined by the variability of total turbulent heat fluxes. The regions of maximum variability of the heat balance and total turbulent heat fluxes coincide and correspond to the region of North Atlantic Deep Water formation. It has been confirmed that ocean dampens the observed warming of the troposphere by changing turbulent heat fluxes.
