On the development of the INTS databank: hydrometeorological information

Abstract:

Previously, the Institute of Natural and Technical Systems had established a regional oceanographic databank, which contained a certain amount of hydrometeorological information. This paper describes the development of this bank by replenishing the database with hydrometeorological information and improving the software. The current version of the bank contains data obtained at 34 hydrometeorological stations located in the Black Sea region. Four of these stations are represented by arrays of standard hydrometeorological observations at the main synoptic times (00, 06, 12, and 18 hours GMT) from 1950 to 2008, while the remaining 30 stations provide calculated monthly and daily average values (i.e., average daily/monthly values calculated for each day/month of each year) for more than a century, from 1900 to 2010. The bank also contains the results of measurements of parameters characterizing the interaction of the sea with the atmospheric surface layer, carried out in the northwestern part of the Black Sea at the offshore stationary gas production platform “Golitsyno-4”. The databank is based on the free SQLite software. Its advantages include ease of use, high speed of data processing, and presentation of information in a user-friendly format.
