Abstract:

The paper lists the components of harmful emissions of powerful marine diesel engines. Particular attention is paid to the problem of the influence of sulfur as a component of residual fuels and methods and means of its reducing. It is shown that the use of low-sulfur fuels significantly impairs the lubricating properties of fuel, which negatively affects the operation of fuel equipment (plunger pairs and other precision elements of the fuel system) and, as a result, leads to additional costs for its modernization. As one of the methods of reducing the impact of sulfur compounds on the environment without the need to modernize the engine itself, a scheme is proposed that includes a scrubber supplemented with a gas purification system and a recuperator, the use of which will increase the thermal efficiency of the engine-scrubber-recuperator system. At the same time, an integrated approach is applied, taking into account such a negative factor during diesel operation as backpressure on the exhaust. The most preferred disposal systems are systems that do not require complication of the ICE design itself, but are integrated as additional modules connected to the ICE gas exhaust system (for example, scrubbers). A method of using energy of exhaust gases along with a combination of known methods of utilizing heat and cleaning exhaust gases in an internal combustion engine is proposed.
