Abstract:

Based on the data of complex oceanographic surveys and satellite imagery using methods of pair and multiple correlations, the tightness of statistical relationships between satellite data and total suspended matter concentration field in the Kerch Strait is estimated. It is shown, that there is no close correlation between the optical satellite data fields and fields of total suspended matter concentration characteristics in the studied region, which can be used for quantitative estimates of the suspension concentration based on satellite information. Specific situations are identified where the fields of the quantities under consideration are related to each other by weak correlation dependence. The correlation between the brightness of the satellite image and the field of the integral suspension in the upper water layer turned out to be the closest.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the feasibility of the application of satellite data on issues related to information on the field of suspended matter in the Kerch Strait. For example, the tasks of the port sediment accumulating areas, bays, navigable canals, deformation of the coastline and seabed.

Studied region  covers the Kerch Strait and adjacent water area of the Black and Azov Seas. Contact information from the array, consisting of 31 surveys of Kerch Strait, which were accomplished by Maritime Hydrophysical Institute since 2001 to 2014, was able to choose only two comprehensive surveys, for which of the INTERNET  satellite images with quality, roughly corresponding to the task were picked   up The cramped of statistical relationship between contact and satellite data by methods of pair-wise and multiple correlations was determined.

Solution of three tasks showed the following result. (1) The lack of correlation between the brightness of the satellite snapshot  and the horizontal fields of the content of total suspended matter (TSM); (2) The presence of a weak direct correlation dependence with a coefficient of 0.55 and 0.52 between brightness of the satellite snapshot and the fields of integral  TSM concentrations, respectively, in the layer 0-2 m in Azov waters of the Kerch Strait and 0-4 in the Black Sea waters of the Kerch Strait; (3) The presence of a weak inverse correlation dependence with a coefficient of-0.44 and -0.49 between the brightness of the reflected  satellite signal, which is fixed by the first channel of the colour scanner MODIS in the wavelength range of 0.450-0.515 µm and a field of concentration TSM on the surface for the Azov Sea waters and the waters of the Black Sea origin. A Vista development task (2) is justified. It is shown that one of the main reasons to rely on close statistical relationship between distance and contact information regarding reviewed values is due to the lack of their overall temporal binding conditions characteristic of the Kerch Strait significant temporal variability of TSM concentration field.
