Abstract:
Aspergillus flavus Link is a widespread species of micromycetes that inhabits various substrates and is best known as a pathogen of agricultural products. Strains of this species are often isolated from the surface of buildings, equipment, monuments, works of art, etc. The aim of this work was to determine whether Aspergillus flavus strains participate in biodegradation processes or whether the high frequency of isolation of the species strains is due to its frequent occurrence and wide distribution. The study examined the ability of 8 strains of the microscopic fungus Aspergillus flavus to grow on samples of polymeric materials, isolated from the surface of non-metallic materials that were tested for microbiological resistance in different climatic zones. As a result of the tests, all the studied strains showed, to varying degrees, the ability to grow on the selected materials. The most active fungal growth was recorded on samples of cover fabric, less on samples of cotton fabric, rubber mixture and thiokol sealant. These strains can be used to conduct tests on the fungal resistance of polymeric materials and products, as well as to study the effectiveness of fungicides used to protect polymeric materials.
Keywords: Aspergillus flavus, biodamage, fungal resistance, contamination of materials, microbiological resistance, micromycetes-destructors.
